Robert Newcombe
The 8 barriers that are ruining your team's productivity
(and how to overcome them) Presentation Synopsis: DOWNTIME (or TIMWOODS) is an acronym for 8 wastes in Lean: defects, overproduction, waiting, non-utilized skills, transportation, inventory, motion, and extra processing. These wastes are mostly applicable to workers that build things, but what about a typical knowledge worker? People can't be managed like machines. Activities such as batching, which are typically frowned upon in producing goods, can actually be a good practice for knowledge workers. Taking a few extra steps to get to the printer is not near as harmful as constant context switching throughout the day. In this session, Robert will introduce a new acronym (HIVEMIND) for categorizing wastes for knowledge workers. He will also demonstrate how the fundamentals of Lean apply to knowledge workers, with a behavioral science twist |
