Presentation Synopsis: A value stream map is a Lean tool and identifies all of the key activities from customer request to delivery. It is a great tool to get above the process, identify waste and bottlenecks, and quantify the process. Traditionally a manufacturing tool, Robert and his Barrington Consulting colleagues have incorporated IT systems and other metrics into the tool that are critical to service industries. Robert will show you how value stream mapping workshops have been used with Halifax Transit, Edmonton Transit, and the Province of NS, to create a future state vision and an action plan to get there.
Speaker Biography: Robert Newcombe is a Senior Consultant with The Barrington Consulting Group, headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Robert is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) and an MBA graduate from the Sobey School of Business. He also has his Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification. Robert has executed business process improvement projects and utilized the Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools with clients in municipal government, provincial government, and the private sector. He has also trained and coached 30 green belts, 80 yellow belts, and 140 Managers and Directors through Performance Excellence Training. Robert has taken what he has learned from his own training and experience in different industries and trained other Lean Six Sigma Green Belts how to plan, prepare, and facilitate value stream mapping workshops.
